- The message is collectivist because he says for "you and me". He is basically saying to the listener that the land is to share. The listener represents the "you" in this case. He shows the variety of the country, California and New York, to prove that there is a place for everybody in this country. There are many different types of people in America, but many different places to live in.
He is very anti-government because he seems so free-spirited. He also makes the government seem quite oppressive with the "No Trespassing" example. He thinks the government has too much control and is very forceful. He is till patriotic, but still believes the government is too demanding.

Egg story
1. He was laid-back and country. He was situated and comfortable. He then became uptight and determined because his wife changed him.
2. He is so sick and tired of chickens, eggs, and everything that goes with it.
3. It could be the connection back to his old life.
4. It shows that chapter of his life is coming to a close.

Aristotle
Yes, I most definitely agree. Basically, he is saying that the mark of an educated or smart person is that he/she can be open-minded, listen to thoughts, hear out a person, but maybe not agree. You don't have to agree, just listen. I think that is completely correct because it shows that your are willing to hear other opinions and not be stubborn.

1984- 2
Winston is having trouble buying into what the party, Big Brother, and the state are saying because he had already begun to think about the societies problems in the beginning of the book. Once you start noticing everything that is wrong, it is almost impossible to stop. he even thinks that Julia, who says she loves him, is a spy. He is so paranoid! Now, he has gotten to the point where he can't help but be frustrated with the society. Other people don't think about these things because that thought process has never been triggered for them. If it were to, then they wouldn't be able to stop either. You can't control your thoughts, so Winston is now constantly thinking about the societal issues. I would say his little acts of defiance of are a form of protest. First off, almost anything in Oceania that is not what the state of big Brother tells you to do, is against the rules. Occupy wall street is a big protest in today's society, and it is much larger than Winston's little rebellions. Occupy wall street people are protesting on wall street against the bankers, calling them the 1%. They are the 99%, and they are all mad.The government, or higher class, is annoyed by the protesters because there are so many of them. They can be for " Occupy Wall Street" even if they aren't out protesting. They believe the protesters are ignorant, but the protesters think the bankers are ignorant. The masses, or 99%, are actually in support if this. It is only approximately 1% that are not. We have become Orwellian in the sense that the government is a small portion that controls everything. In the book, the party just dismisses the proles, much like today's society with the rich and poor. Most people would disagree with the government, but only some of them really speak up.

Cultural Dimension
1. In collectivism, you are loyal to a group. In individualistic culture, you just worry about you. Individualists are more selfish.
2. Individualistic cultures value status; people are promoted or fired. There are rankings everywhere you go and everything you do. You can't escape it. It is in work, school, sports, in the home, money, and many more.
3. A teacher in a Individualisitic culture will have favorite students, students who fail, who pass, or don't care. SHe moves to China, and it is all about how to best have the class as a whole understand. She can't move on until everybody gets the problem. This will take osme getting used to.
4. An acquaintance is kind of like a friend or somebody you know, but just don't always associate with. It has a positive connotation. It is the type of person you get along with and have no problems with, but you just are not close to them.

2 + 2 = 5 Radiohead
1. The government tells you how to live your life, and you cannot control it. No matter what.
2. The sounds starts out creepy, and then gets crazy, fast, and loud. It could show his rebellion. The temp keeps getting faster, an dthat could be showing that society is getting rapidly worse.
3. In 1984, you will and must believe everything the government says, even if it doesn't make any sense. The government can tell you who you are, and you will just have to jump right on the bandwagon.

Reading Response 1984 1
In Winston's society, Oceania, the government has all of the power, and they want to rid of crime or even thoughtcrime completely. Their vocabulary actually gets smaller, and eliminates so many different words. That way, everybody has the same intelligence level, or equal, and they even get rid of all words with a bad denotation. This will eventually result in no crime at all because it is not even part of the language.
There is no religion in this society so far, and it is actually stated that everyone is basically single, or without a relationship, in the society. People think they are happy because they do not know any different. they cannot even think unhappy words. they attempt to make all equal by getting rid of any element that would make things unequal.

Utopia
- A utopia in essence is " a perfect world".
-My ideal perfect world would have no wars, but still fighting. Without fighting, there is no competition. I just don't want any big wars to occur. If sat here and listed everything I would want in a perfect world, then it would be too perfect. It would then become a dystopia.
-I am the type of person that has many differing tastes, styles, and favorite things. I love so many different aspects of life, and many genres of music. I wear different outfits to school everyday. It is the same with music. So, I would have all genres playing: country, rock, rap, pop, etc.

Bo bartlett-other paintings
claims- red tones
He grew up in the country, hunting, chopping down trees, and that was his life.
The way he grew up completely influenced his life.
He is a Christian.
He went to school, but he never loved it. The prom picture, bored school bus, and other classroom picture don't put school in a very good light. He would rather be alone, and be violent. He is not a people person.

Builds to Spill
1. The lyrics don't really fit the style and type of music. It is too bangy to have those soft feelings.
2. The guitars and drums sound very angry and frustrated.
3. I do not think the song is effective because you don't know whether to be angry( like the music) or innocent( like the lyrics). It has very differing sides that don't really mix. For me as the listener, I didn't really know how to react.

" Young Life" Bo Bartlett
Claims-

3. The boy will grow up to be like the bad boy that hunts; his brother.
Fact-
1. They are wrapped around eachother
2. The boy is with the couple
3. he is holding a violent stick.
paragraph-
Bo Bartlett conveys that the boy in the picture will grow up to be just like his ole model in the picture through the stick, colors, and positioning in " Young Life". This boy is being watched over by the adults, so naturally he is learning from them. he can't help this fact because it is the only way of life he knows. The boy is holding a stick in his hand, and the man is holding the gun in the same way.

Avett brothers
subject- a failing relationship
tone- begging, pleading, sadness, wanting, regret
Untender, overwhelming, and break all contribute to the depressed tone because of the sad connotation. the show that the singer is upset, regretful, and he feels bad. The word break shows that he has been broken.
