"Across the Universe" The Beatles

I just love this song! Three images are: broken light, sounds of laughter, and shades of life. the shades of life are basically all the different parts of your life, sounds of laughter are the good times, and the broken light is the struggles.

The cross of Christianity is a symbol because it represents Christians, and reminds us that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. It becomes more than an image because people have always perceived it as important. The cross might seem as more of a picture you see when you think Christians,  but to a person who knows more about Christianity then say a Buddhist, the cross symbolizes that Jesus dies on the cross for us. So, to people who know about the religion or believe in it can put the cross with Jesus being crucified, and it is thought of as something bigger than just Christians.

Inspiration Information

The overall feel of the song is energizing and fun, and it makes you want to get up and dance! The musical element that put off that vibe was the fast pace, the consistent upbeat base, and the keyboard really made it happy. It sounded like the guy on the keyboard was having fun. The lyrics were even about laughing and having fun. The band had to get all the happy instruments to work together, without sounding annoying, and they pulled it off.

SOAPSTone and painting

S-the subject is a man hard at work with another man
O-middle of the day; it looks hot; in a field
A-people above the working class
P-The artist is trying to convey that some people have to work for the same life others just get by default.
S-Maybe he had experience in a situation like this, so he was relate able
T-it makes you think and wonder; depressing; sad

The big idea the artist wants you to think about is how some people are treated differently because of their race, or the working class has it much harder than everyone else. This leads to the point that people should be grateful, not snobby, for not being part of the working class. The working man is bent over, tired, and wiped out. It looks hot outside, so I am sure he is not enjoying this. He doesn't have a choice though because he needs the money.

Wilco and writing process

Wilco's approach to creating a song is they must have all 5 members working together. They also write a song, then destroy it, and go through every part.

My creative process for writing is really just an outline that is basic, but I add more detail on it as I go along. It is simple, but while I am writing, I continue to add details to the piece of paper. I always try to think, " What would the reader think/say about this sentence?"

Nostalgia

Nostalgia is a feeling you get when you see something that helps you remember your past memory. This song just reminds me of Christmas, and that happy feeling Christmas feeling. Also, the song is in a Home Alone movie, so I think if that. It creates this picture of watching Christmas movies around December. As a child, I always remember talking a lot, I still do, and people listening. My mom and I read together a lot, and I played with my dog all the time because we were the same height.

A Pinch of Poverty

Lack of jobs and money cause poverty, and family needs and problems can lead to it as well. This painting really displays these people in a positive and negative light because the expressions show sadness and darkness, and a positive light because the yellow flowers who that there is hope. The message is that poverty is sad/hard, but there are ways to escape it. It can be overcome. The fact that they are on the side of a wet road and are dressed poorly so that poverty is no fun at all. Also, the newborn baby shows that it is hard work being poor.

Reading Response 1

Singer's piece and Divakaruni's piece are very different, and Singer's really bothered me. First, hardly any families spend 30,000 on necessities becasue there are so many things parents must pay for now. textbook fees, school uniforms, sports gear, and many others. Even people who could pay that, mostly can't, because the money is going somewhere else, and rent needs to be paid. He expects everyone to live off "necessities", well what about enriching our lives with experiences and not just sitting around all day? What about paying for college? If everyone only worried about food and water, our country would get nothing done and it would be a disaster. There would be no technological advancements with this plan. he was also kinda pushy in his argument, and that doesn't help persuade someone. On the other hand, Divakaruni's writing was persuasive and not pushy. There were interesting little stories, she stated her opinion, and asked many questions. That makes the reader think more, and I was convinced. I did have reader bias because I read Singer's first, so of course, I would think the second is much more reasonable.

Ariel Pink's haunted Grafitti- " Round and Round"

" Round and Round" is not the type of music I listen to at all, but it isn't too bad. I wouldn't chose to listen to it on my own, but it is fine to listen to in class. It is interesting sounding, and it sort of changes (singers) throughout the song. I do like the base because it sounds good. The only thing that bothers me is that I can;t understand what they are saying at some parts. One fact is the base is on and off in the entire song. In the sing, sometimes it is in larger, loud groups, and sometimes deep with 3 or 4 people.

Questions:
Since facts are stated true statements and can't be argued, people must take them into account when forming an opinion. The might be aspects or parts that you do or don't like to be in songs. For example, if you really don't like instrumental only songs, and it is fact that this song is instrumental, the person probably won't like it. So, facts help you make a decision on whether or not you like the song. One of my facts talked about how the singing/singers kept changing, and that helped me decide that i didn't like the confusion or be able to understand them. Yes, I have bias, and everyone does. People have haerd other types of music and formed opinions, so those reflect how you will feel about a new song.
